Marwest Utility Services Ltd. was founded in 1987, and has grown to become one of the largest gas utility companies in the Interior of British Columbia. In 2007, Rocky McLeod acquired Marwest and aligned it with Darlen Transport. The formation of Muskwa Construction and Environmental completed the Marwest Group that now provides a complete range of services in construction and maintenance of natural gas utilities; pipeline location, maintenance and installation; and pipeline construction.
Marwest operates as a wholly-owned, 100% aboriginal company with ventures in mining, energy and transportation. The company operates throughout Western and North Western Canada and brings the experience and understanding of project delivery from both the owners’ and the contractors’ perspectives.
Recognized as the All-Nations Trust Aboriginal Company of the Year in 2012, Marwest is proud of its affiliation with the Aboriginal community and continues to strengthen those partnerships with new ventures.
Our project managers and construction overhead teams bridge the interests of industry and local stakeholders. Marwest fosters participation in strategic alliances with Aboriginal communities for the delivery and execution of projects.
Marwest is proud to be a member of the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Businesses and is a Certified Aboriginal Business.
Owner & President – Rocky McLeod has more than 20 years of business and new venture experience. He has taken Marwest from a company of 20 employees to one with more than 90 staff during his short tenure as owner. He came to Marwest from Darlen Transport Ltd., which he expanded from a small heavy-duty hauling operation with six trucks to an operation with more than 70 units.
Rocky has built affiliated companies such as Darlen Transport, Sikkanni Chief Logistics, and Muskwa Construction & Environmental. Under his leadership, Marwest was awarded the All Nations Trust Company Aboriginal Business of the Year in 2012. Rocky looks to continue Marwest’s growth and increase its role as a western Canada service provider.
Chief Operating Officer – Jim Keyes brings a diverse background to Marwest with his 29 years of experience as an owner and consultant in enterprise management and supervision in Forestry, Agriculture and Energy sectors. Along with his senior management and leadership positions across a variety of industries, Jim has worked extensively with First Nations business units throughout the province of BC.
These attributes and his ability to build and maximize high performance teams will factor into Marwest’s internal goals of growth and expansion in the natural gas industry.
